The position is ideal for someone with any combination of the following previous experiences. This position is considered a significant local government position in which an individual will apply laws and ordinances to ensure properties are maintained safely and in compliance with all applicable regulations. Other important duties include:

 

  • Evaluate facilities and processes for compliance with the policies and;

  • Evaluate approved projects for compliance with conditions of approval;

  • Work closely with fellow cannabis commissioners to deliver the best results for the success of the Tribe, tribal members, and the communities around our tribal lands.

  • Review cannabis operations utilizing knowledge of local codes and regulations.

  • Conduct follow-up inspections concerning recommendations for compliance.

  • Research and analyze building and land use for potential expansion.

  • Ensure zoning laws are followed and coordinate with the commission to maintain tribal properties pertaining to cannabis use.

  • Presents violations in front of a hearing body.

  • Learn to perform routine investigations and inspections and prepare files for presentation and testimony to include relevant code or rules sections.

  • Learn to follow established procedures to issue inspection reports and corrective action plans to correct any matter in violation of Tribal codes and regulations.

  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

  • Learn to manage and prioritize numerous cases simultaneously.

  • Learn how to utilize software to research and manage code cases.

Under close supervision, a Code Compliance Officer receives training in and performs a variety of field and office work in support of the Tribe’s Cannabis Program; writes a variety of inspection reports and reports directly to a governing body.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Mobility to work in a standard office environment, use standard office equipment and attend off-site meetings. Mobility to travel in the field and traverse acreage by foot or four-wheel drive vehicle. Vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen, hearing and speech to communication people and by telephone.

Willingness and ability to work in exposure to temperature extremes, inclement weather, hazardous materials and substances.

Willingness and ability to deal with sometimes uncooperative and irate industry personnel in day-to-day situations.

Some accommodations may be made for some physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodations.

Ability to change batteries in smoke, motion detectors.

Technical ability to work within security systems and cameras, PoE, Cat. mesh networking experience would be highly desirable.

All applicants will be reviewed based on the following preferred criteria:
(Tribal hiring preference)

  • Possession of high school diploma or GED certificate,

  • Experience performing code or legal review related work,

  • technical planning work,

  • natural resource management work (if non-enforcement related work),

  • or performing building inspection related activities.

  • Technical ability to work within security systems and cameras, PoE, Cat. mesh networking.
